Remember, this is my OPINION, therefore, whatever I say is NOT a fact. We all have different tastes in music and art, and I want you to get my side of the story as well as I want to know yours.
You can always leave your comments below in the article, but remember to always be respectful to everyone’s opinions and culture backgrounds.
Now that you know that, LETS BEGIN!
——————————————–
The year 2021 is the second year of the 4th generation K-Pop wave, and let me tell you, I did not love it at all. There were a few songs I LOVED so much, but that’s for a future opinion article.
Today I want to talk about the TOP 10 WORST songs K-Pop offered this year.
10. (G)I-DLE_”Hwaa”
Personally, I feel like G(I)-DLE was only a fad that is slowly fading away. I remember everyone used to be so obsessed with every G(I)-DLE’s comeback. I believe this song may be the beginning of their downfall, aside from this year’s group controversy and Soojin leaving the group. There’s nothing in this music video or song that has me coming back to watch/listen to it. All the members and the MV visuals are beautiful, but the song was not it.
I give this song 3 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐
9. CHUNG HA_”Bicycle”
To be honest, I have not listened to CHUNG HA since 2019’s “Gotta Go” comeback. I came back to listen to CHUNG HA this year because I heard the comeback was a genre change to hip-hop and I was interested to see what CHUNGA HA had in store for us. Sadly, I was disappointed. CHUNG HA’s rap is fine, nothing against it, but I feel like this concept does not really fit her. The song is okay, but is not catchy. There’s nothing more to say, so let’s go to #8!
I give this song 3 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐
8. GOT7_Encore
At the beginning of this year, it hit us with the news that GOT7 would not be renewing contracts with JYP Ent. and we were all heartbroken. Even though the group said they will not disband, we know GOT7 will be on a hiatus for a while as all members pursue solo activities. GOT7 then surprised us with a comeback! I was so excited to see what GOT7 got in store after leaving JYP and I wanted their comeback to be like a “look at us now” diss-track to JYP, but we did not get that. Yes, we got a cute song from them, but it was not the comeback I wanted. I am still sad about that but I really hope they release catchy music in the future. I NEED GOT7!
I give this song 3 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐
7. WONHO_”Blue”
This song should technically not be a flop since my man Wonho sings it and he blesses us with OnlyFans style content almost every day on Instagram. This hurts me to say, but this song is a flop. I would say the song can grow on you over time, but it is not catchy on the first listen. I personally believe this upbeat song does not really match with Wonho’s musical style. Wonho’s debut and fist comeback songs are the type of boy crush style I like to see coming from Wonho. I do like that Wonho is experimenting with different style of music, but I do believe he should stick with more dark and boy crush style music.
I give this song 3 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐
6. STAYC_”Stereotype”
As I write this, I am actually listening to “Stereotype” and should say I am starting to like this song. Nevertheless, it made my top 10 flop songs list. In the first half of this year we got “ASAP” and girl~~~ that song was my mega jam! But when “Stereotype” came out and I first listened to it, it was not what I was expecting it to be. Even though “Stereotype” it’s actually STAYC’s most popular song to date, there’s something I do not like about the song, but I can decide what is it. The chorus of the song, I would say it’s very catchy and very STAYC-like. Hopefully in 2022, STAYC blesses us with more awesome music. I really see them being a top girl group in the years to come.
I give this song 3 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐
5. TRI.BE_”Would You Run”
TRI.BE VIDA LOCA!!! Oh my God! If y’all only knew how many times I listened to TRI.BE this summer. They were my Summer Queens this year. You might wonder, “Well Danny, if they are your favorite, then why are they ON THIS LIST!”. Well let me tell you my beautiful friend, there recent comeback “Would You Run” was a NO-NO for me. As much as I love TRI.BE, this comeback song was not it, and that is because this song sounded like a wanna be BLACKPINK-song. The song style composition and the rap verses are very BLACKPINK inspired. I really liked TRI.BE’s unique flavor from their songs “DOOM DOOM TA” and “RUM-A-DUM”, and I really wanted to see that style in this comeback. I really hope this comeback was just an experimental song because I would really dislike to see TRI.BE continue using this comeback’s style in their upcoming comebacks.
I give this song 2 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐
4. CIGNATURE_”Boyfriend”
I feel like I have been repeating myself throughout this article, but I am saying it again, the concept and music style changes is something I am not enjoying from the artists in this list. Cignature has been an incredible rookie girl group and having their own unique flavor, but like I have said, the change from their upbeat girl crush style to a sweet girl crush is not going well. The song is not catchy and does not hook you right away compared to their debut and comeback singles. I really hope Cignature continues releasing new music but with a return to their original concepts.
I give this song 2 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐
3. BTS_”Permission to Dance”
Wow, I am ready to get attacked by many Armys, but many may actually agree with me on this one. Not only do I believe this song is a flop, but many Armys actually felt the same way on Twitter. Many discussed how this song didn’t feel as exciting as “Butter”. I felt the same way, but also, I feel like BTS needs to come back to making Korean music. I understand they are targeting the American/ Global market, but they were already doing that when doing K-Pop. BTS does not feel like BTS when they sing in English. I really hope BTS’ future comebacks are finally in Korean again. I miss that.
I give this song 2 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐
2. EVERGLOW_”Pirate”
I love love love Everglow, but sadly this song is very cringy. I don’t know who their lyricists was for their song, but Everglow needs to ask for their money back. The chorus is quite childish. Hearing “A Pirate, yeah yeah” over and over is boring. I don’t have a problem with a chorus being repetitive because there’s many songs with a repetitive chorus but they do not sound as boring and cringy as “Pirate”. The lyrics are suppose to show girl power but these lyrics were not it. I was pretty sad not to enjoy an Everglow comeback this year, but I am still very hopeful on what’s to come next year.
I give this song 1 out of 5 stars. ⭐
1. LISA_”LALISA”
The only reason this song is popular is because Lisa sings it and BLACKPINK is always over hyped. Don’t get me wrong, BLACKPINK is an incredible group and they deserve it all, but I do not like when fans over hyped a song that is literally so basic. The choreography for this song was made for TikTok; another reason this song gained more popularity. I will say the instrumental is very lit and very BLACKPINK-style, but the lyrics and the choreography were not top tier. ~I am sorry, Blinks🙏
I give this song 1 out of 5 stars. ⭐
I really wish my best for all of these artist in the list because I know they work so hard every day to bring us content every year.
Let me know down below what you all think. What songs deserve or do not deserve to be on this list? Why?
